The wait is finally over! The launch of the 2017 Canyon Strive models has been as hotly anticipated as everyone’s next pay rise and now the new line-up has finally been released. Here’s our run-through of Canyon’s hot-to-trot enduro bikes for the coming season.

The Strive rapidly became hot property on the enduro scene, and the 2016 model was more than content to mix it against the significantly more expensive competition in our group test. With the Strive line now in its third year, Canyon have opted to fine-tune rather than invest in any overly radical developments – and that’s a good thing, as a lot of their tweaks have hit particular sweet-spots, which will play a definitive role for those looking to get their hands on a new bike in the imminent future.

Ridden by the Canyon Factory Enduro Team, the Canyon Strive has consistently pulled the performances out the bag in competitions.

The geometry of the Canyon Strive 2017

The most distinguishing changes affect the frame size and geometry, seeing the Strive exclusively coming in the brand’s longer race geometry for 2017, which was formerly the reserve of select models. Fortunately, there are also the new XS and XL sizes, so tall and small riders won’t be left at home.

Improvements to the spec

In terms of the build specs, Canyon have truly pulled the bikes to the front of the pack with these modernisations. All of the models now feature wider rims, and – aside from the Team models – they’re all rolling on MAXXIS tyres. The Race models with their single front chainring rely on a grippy Minion DHR II at the front and a lower profile Minion SS at the rear. The double chainringed bikes have a Minion DHR II at the rear as well. The M, L and XL frames come with a RockShox Reverb Stealth with 150 mm of adjustment, which surely marks a welcome addition for riders who ate their vegetables as children. Those teething problems that whirred around the Shapeshifter geometry adjustment system have allegedly been put to bed.

Canyon Strive CF 2017 models

The carbon version of the Strive CF will be launched in four complete builds in 2017, with prices ranging from € 3,799 to € 5,499. When it comes to three of these models, you can choose the fairly distinguished colours of the Factory Enduro Team or ‘Electric Blue.’ The Strive CF 9.0 Race cuts a lone figure, seeing it forego the team colours in favour of a more understated Stealth paintjob. The RockShox equipped bike come with 160 mm of fork travel, the Fox models offer 170 mm of front suspension. The carbon Strive comes exclusively with a 1x drivetrain, and three of the four bikes are kitted with SRAM’s latest X01 Eagle 1×12 drivetrain.

Our impression

The Canyon Strive is a force to be reckoned with! Even as it heads into its third model year, the Strive upholds its rep as a super exciting enduro bike. These small improvements to its build spec are confirmation of its ability to keep on the pulse and offer a very cohesive total package. We’re enamoured with the CF 9.0 Race with the 170 mm travel from the FOX 36 forks, the sturdy DT Swiss EX 1501 wheels and the Stealth colourway for € 4,999. When it comes to value for money, then the glory has to go to the AL 5.0 Race at just € 2,999, which – with its RockShox Lyric RC forks, SRAM GX drivetrain and SRAM Guide R brakes – constitutes a seriously well thought-out spec. But regardless of what build you choose, the Canyon Strive delivers a hell of a lot of bike for your buck, so we’re expecting this Koblenz-born enduro weapon to be at the top of everyone’s Christmas list.

All the details on the new models can be found in detail on the Canyon Website.
