For 2016 Crankbrothers are introducing two totally new pedal platforms in the shape of the ‘Mallet E’ and the ‘Stamp’. They also hope to improve reliability using a double seal system in the axle aiming to keep those bearings safe and dry and you on the trail.

So, lets dive straight on in with what you need to know on the reliability front. Crankbrothers have developed a double seal system to protect the bearings in the axel. This creates an internal and external seal and prevents water and debris from entering the pedal. This new design can be found on both the ‘Mallet E’ and the new flat pedal, the ‘Stamp’. In addition Crankbrothers have devised a single entry point for grease, meaning the pedal can be maintained without removing it from the bike. The grease port is located so as to push grease from the far end of the axel towards the new seals, keeping everything running smoothly for longer.

The ‘Mallet E’ stands alongside the rest of the Mallet range as an aggressive trail riding pedal. Crankbrothers advocate that this pedal is 12% smaller and 50g lighter than the Mallet DH, as it comes in at 419g per pair. Additionally Crankbrothers have also integrated a ‘traction pad’ to both sides of the pedal to optimise grip and give a more secure foothold. This pad can be customised and changed out with different thicknesses depending on your shoe choice or, indeed, the life in that shoe! To further aid grip when unclipped the Mallet E has 6 adjustable pins and a concave platform.

The ‘Stamp’, a flat pedal is interesting in the fact it comes in two different sizes to optimise the interface between the pedal and the shoes. Crankbrothers denote which pedal size is better suited depending on shoe size, meaning better grip and support and minimising unnecessary weight with pedals too large for the given shoe area. The smaller pedal measures 100x100mm and weighs 375g per pair. The larger is 114x111mm (axel side x width) and weight 405g per pair.
