Rounding off another amazing season, the EWS Final in Finale is over! After wandering around the globe, it seems a fitting tradition that the overall be decided on the hallowed trails of Finale Ligure. With new stages, amazing racing and good weather, it was a round that proved an iconic end to the season!

Nobody could stop Cecile Ravanel, she is in a league of her own.
Nobody could stop Cecile Ravanel, she is in a league of her own.

Going into the round Cecile Ravanel was safe having already clinched the title, but it was clear she was determined to stand on the top step in the piazza overlooking the Mediterranean. Somebody help her – she is on fire! In the men’s race any rumours that Richie Rude was just going to cruise it for the overall were squashed as he exploded down the stages, taking an impressive second (and of course, the overall championship). But the man of the hour is the youngster Martin Maes, explosive and a joy to watch. In fact looking back to the 2013 Race Report from Finale I wrote “Martin Maes is the Junior winner of round 6 and the overall Junior champ, despite his young age he was one of the fastest through any section, explosive! He will win this round one day”. Well, now he has!

Martin Maes, a bright future lies ahead.
