Tenerife may not be our most visited place, but when RockShox decided to hold a tutoring lesson in fork setups, it was one of the best trips we’ve been on. 9 months of sun per year, beautiful trails and huge descents, what more could you ask for? Well, with mountain biking being such a huge business for the country, why would the authorities not want riders going? Below is a petition you may just want to read…

Dear Bikers,

Please help by sharing and signing this petition!

I first took my MTB to Tenerife in 2008 and was blown away by the variety and quality of the trails. Rain forests, deserts, Alpine style switchback trails and 1000 metre descents. Best of all you can put your bike in the municipal bus for 2 Euros and get a 1900 meter uplift!

Easy and cheap to fly to, with a great climate 9 months of the year Tenerife (& Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, La Gomera) offer perfect trails when the rest of Europe is covered in snow/rain/mud. Best of all you can go with your family, send the kids to the beach/zoo/water park and sneak off for a quick 2000 metres singletrail descending and be back for lunch: genius!

But the authorities seem to be getting more hostile towards bikers. Earlier this year my group were stopped by rangers and told “you’ll go to jail” if we continued (down an unused overgrown trail 10km from the nearest village).

Please share this petition amongst your riding friends: it might not be on your doorstep but mountainbikers have traditionally been pretty rubbish at lobbying and solidarity! We aren’t criminals just (slightly geeky) adrenalin/nature junkies…..together we are stronger.

Please take 5 minutes to sign the petition.
