POC Scottish Enduro Series Round 6 Ae: A Rumble in the Jungle

There are a few questions that are always impolite to ask: stuff like “why are you single?” Another is “how much does your bike weight?” Nobody likes seeing their pride and joy drilled down to the hard numbers. In a feat of investigative journalism, we weighed 30 bikes at the Scottish Enduro Series to find out how much freight everyone is hauling. Granted some bikes had tubes attached and all had pedals on, but it’s interesting to see the real world weights.
In order to soften the blow, we have also expressed the weights in the form of their representative small furry mammal.
Richard Doherty’s ride was a perfect 16kg , about the same as an Agile Wallaby.Sean “Death stare” Johnston’s Specialized hit 15.5 kg, like a Golden JackalZara Kane’s Commencal hit 15.41 kg, like a Border CollieBob Slaney’s Transition hit 15.72 kg, but had heaps of stuff taped to it.Angus Kean’s Giant was a featherweight 14.10 kg, like a porky Black-Striped-Scrub-WallabyJohanthan Well’s stealth nomad came under the radar at 15.02 kgCaptain Steezy Stokey Stoke’s Evil hit 14.73 kg. He was stoked.Doug Shearer’s Rocky Mountain was just 13.75 kg. A Grizzled Tree Kangaroo matches up.Martin Kennedy’s Commencal tipped the scales to 14.95 kg, Red Necked Wallaby it is then.Euan Thomson’s Mega weighed in at 15.87kg, but it has a coil shock so is rad.
Joe Dobsons Orbea weighed in at 15 kg on the nose, the same as a fat Chinese Water DeerScottish Champ Chris Hutchen’s Nukeproof weighs 62kg (really 15.41kg) but he can beat Chuck Norris in an arm wrestle so he doesnt care.Julie Anne Hutchinson’s Trek is called Trevor and weighs 14.10kg… We approve.Thorfinn Barton’s Ghost topped out at 16.36 kg, but that cool names worth 2 kgs for sure.Finaly Anderson’s Whyte T-130 squeeked in at 15.5kg, like a skinny WolverineCallum McCubbing’s Mondraker tipped the scales to a serious 16.1 kg, but we may have left the bottle in.Ben Cathro’s High Tower was the biggest bike, but not the heaviest, 15.10 kg. Galado Baboon comes to mind.
Craig Miller’s Canyon team issue was a svelte 14.18 kg, Cocker Spaniel it is.Fiona Beattie’s Canyon took the prize for lightest bike, 12.37 kg, about the same as a Pygmy Shrew.John Paul Cunningham’s YT came in at 14.27 kg, but its all black so we will take 3 kilos off for coolness!Sam Kennedy’s Trek had a weight of 15.38 kg, about the same as a lazy Dorcas Gazelle.Fi Berry’s Orange weighed in at 14.38 kg, so not made out of pig iron after all! It’s a Chinese Forest Mush Deer for you Fi.Janey Kennedy’s Nukeproof was not bad, 14.81kg. Twinned with a Swamp Wallaby.Duncan Pye’s 29er Jeffsy rocked the scales to a heady 14.68 kg, pretty much Spaniel weightMikey Muldoon’s Nomad was a tiny bit heavier at 14.52 kg, about the same as an Asiatic Golden Cat.Andrew Macpherson’s YT Capra was pretty trim at 13.82 kg, about the same as a Old World Badger.John Watson’s Canyon weighed in at 16.47 kg, about the same weight as a fully grown hippo!Nic Fell’s Santa Cruz Nomad rocked out at 14.33 kg, the same as an African CivetThomas Mitchell’s Kona Process 153 tipped the scales at 15.22kg, about the same as a Red Fronted GazelleSam Flackharts Cube Stereo Team 160 weighs in the same as a Proboscis Monkey at 14.65 kg
