Last year RockShox released a very important update bringing the Reverb Stealth bang up to date. By increasing the bushing overlap, RockShox have been able to add a 170 mm model to their lineup, and the new SKF IFP seal seems to have eliminated the spongy-post syndrome. The standard plunger-style remote cannot match the best remotes for ergonomics. However, the new optional 1x remote is a different beast entirely: ergonomic, smooth, and beautifully designed, it is certainly our top tip.
On the trail the RockShox Reverb’s heritage is unquestioned, as the Reverb boasts a silky-smooth action with an easily tunable return speed. The top and bottom of the stroke are well damped, and reliability – as long as you do not repeatedly lift the bike from the seat in the down position – is now near faultless. Due to the hydraulic operation, the Reverb is a little more complicated to install, but once fitted, does not suffer any cable maintenance issues – a bonus for those who frequently ride in the wet or mud. Once installed, the post can be removed a couple of times if required using the ‘Connectamajig’ quick-release connector. The inline clamp is easy to adjust, but ham-fisted mechanics may get flustered with the tricky seat bolts. Overall, the RockShox Reverb Stealth is an exemplary dropper post, and is always a welcome sight on a bike. The new 1x remote offers a beautiful and intuitive action with one of the most controllable strokes on the market. A modern-day classic, the latest incarnation of the RockShox Reverb deserves its popularity, as one of the best just got better.
