A windproof jacket surely has to be a staple piece of kit for every single mountain biker. We’ve been testing the SCOTT Trail MTN 70 to suss out how it performs both in reality and whether it deserves to become our staple. Here’s a look at our findings once more, which first appeared in issue #017 of the mag.

Die SCOTT
Did the lightweight windproof manage to convince us?

Who doesn’t have one go-to piece in the wardrobe – you know, that piece that just nails it no matter what the occasion. For Christoph, this is the super lightweight SCOTT Trail MTN 70 windbreaker jacket. As the name suggests, the 130g jacket is fully windproof, although the cuffs at the wrist could be tighter as wind has a tendency to creep in if you’re hurtling along. Having been worn almost constantly for nigh on a year, the material (50% polyester and 50% polyamide) has proven itself to be incredibly hard-wearing, more than surviving countless wash cycles as well as the odd crash. All of the seams, including both zips, are completely intact. Thanks to the pretty loose fit and the integrated hood, the jacket can hold its own during after-ride beers too – which, in our eyes, makes it a definite recommendation!
