To amplify the stoke, get your mates to follow and get ready to hear the whoops. Party laps and party hard, good times instead of fast times, whether you’re an expert or a newcomer: for the new ENDURO issue #048 we pushed limits, discovered new worlds, and made hearts beat faster! In the process, we not only found the best bike park bike of 2021, but also invited you to the best festival of your life! ENDURO readers have shared inspiring stories of how mountain biking has changed their lives, and we talk about how the sport of MTB is changing and what the domestication of extreme sports means for the bike community in a powerful opinion piece. We’ve looked outside the box, discussing artificial waves, skiing in the desert, and snowboarding on plastic. Pushing your limits also means taking risks, and while we don’t want to scare you, our first aid guide is here to raise your awareness and clear up dangerous half-truths from long-forgotten first aid courses.

What to expect in this issue

Big bikes, massive jumps and good times: we organised our own mini Rampage in the South of France, pushed our limits in one of Europe’s best bike parks and tested the 6 hottest bike park party bikes between € 2,999 and € 6,999. This group test is for all those who can’t keep their hands out of the cookie jar, who love an adrenaline rush, and just want to have as much fun as possible.

EMTB or Enduro? The Specialized S-Works Turbo Kenevo SL Light eMTB looks deceptively similar to its analogue counterpart, the S-Works Enduro. The two bikes also share almost identical specs and technical features. This was reason enough for us to pit the bikes against each other in our ultimate bruiser shoot-out. Which one gets the rowdiest on the trail and is the most fun to ride?

Ever tried speed dating? Felt that familiar tingle of excitement that comes from having no idea what to expect? Will you hit it off? What happens if you don’t? Can you walk out? Nope, not today – definitely, not today. Not when you’re strapped to a chair. The deafening noise makes any attempt to converse futile. Speed dating, what are you trying to do?

A bike can change your life – like a crazy music festival that makes you see the world differently! Immerse yourself in the wild, fun, and often dirty world of ENDURO! With this guide, both beginners and experts will get the inside knowledge you need to find your groove.

Crashing is a part of our sport! While it usually ends well, crashing can end up turning into a serious emergency. If it’s suddenly up to you to help a friend or stranger, a lack of knowledge, dangerous half-truths and long-forgotten first aid courses only aggravate things. Our must-read guide to first aid shows you what to do so you don’t have to bury your head in the sand.

For so many of us, mountain biking isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life. Beyond being just a journey into the wild that’s focused on locations, it’s also a journey into self-discovery. We know, just as well as you do, that mountain biking can change your life, which is why we wanted to share your stories.

About the author

Peter Walker

As editor-in-chief, Peter is as much a man of action as he is of words. This expert, screw-driver-flexing two wheeled-whizz has many envy-inducing characteristics, including a background in motocross, several EWS race plates to his name, and more than 150 recorded days at Whistler Bike Park. However complex the bike and however steep the trail, he’s probably already nailed it, twice. Oh, and he can do it all on skinny tyres too. When it comes to guiding consumers, Peter cut his teeth at Vancouver’s oldest bike shop and now puts pen to paper on the daily translating this know-how into our editorial plan. When not tearing up Stuttgart’s local trails while testing bikes, he loves nothing more than loading up his self-renovated VW T5 and hitting the road. The fact that he’s a trained paramedic gives his colleagues reassurance out on the trails. So far we haven’t had to call him by his alias ‘Sani Peter’, so here’s hoping he keeps it right side up for the rest of his time here!
