Best in test – Fidlock TWIST Bottle 600
Fidlock’s TWIST Bottle 600 fastening system is developed in Germany and relies on a strong magnet buckle to lock the especially designed bottle into place. Once we remove the 600 ml bottle with a strong twisting motion only a small holding plate is left on the bike frame. The holder can be easily attached to conventional bike-frame mounting points and the installation bolts are included in the box. Simple as that!
The Fidlock bottle can be unclicked and removed in both directions with the right hand side being the easiest way. On the trail the magnetic buckle system totally nailed it. Even in the roughest root-scattered sections and jumps the bottle remained firmly secured inside the magnetic slot. Thanks to the strong magnetic contact points the bottle is easily removed and promptly clicked back into position. Once you’re holding the bottle in your hand you’ll need to give it a hard squeeze to get the water flowing through the ergonomic mouthpiece as the bottle itself is made from rather rigid plastic.
The patented holding system only weighs 48 g but not even its lightweight can justify the steep price of € 34.99. The manufacturer recommends washing their BPA-free bottle in the dishwasher at a temperature of up to 60 °C and to fill it exclusively with still water. Most of us already know that sparkling water can easily pop the mouthpiece open whilst riding. There are also a number of accessories available for purchase such as additional holders and spare bottles for each of your bikes. For those frames that only offer a bottle mount under the downtube, Fidlock offers the Gravity Kit. Mounted upside down, the forces between the bottle and the frame interface are stronger and the additional steel strap of the Gravity Kit should hold everything together nicely. A quick assembly, a firm frame-fit and the easy handling of the bottle makes the Fidlock TWIST bottle our undisputed test winner – even if it’s not cheap.
