Troy Lee Designs A2

With the A2 helmet, Californian cult brand TLD brings some colour to the trail. The Troy Lee Designs A2 is available in countless colours and designs. The A2 stretches down low at the back of the head and its singular design with the shark fin makes for a killer look. Alongside aesthetics, the A2 also offers a number of interesting safety features. TLD combines a dual-density EPP+EPS liner with a MIPS system to offer maximum protection against high- and low-speed impacts. While the A2 is compatible with goggles, you’ll struggle to tuck them under the visor on the uphills, due to the limited adjustment range of the visor. Thanks to special breakaway screws, the visor will snap off on impact to reduce force on the head – well done!

As far as comfort goes, the A2 is second to none. The chunky padding ensured a comfortable fit for pretty much all of our test riders. Updates to the pads add a perforated section, allowing you to remove parts of the padding to modify ventilation and comfort. Despite the superb padding, the large vent-holes and well-placed air ducts provide outstanding ventilation even on muggier days. The big ratchet dial makes for trouble-free adjustments of the headband and the large side-strap adjusters prevent chafing around your ears. The continuous edge protection and sparkling “Jet” paint-finish of our test helmet look awesome and ooze quality. Unfortunately, the shabby bottom-edge and the untidy transitions between the shell and EPS foam tarnish the positive overall picture.
