Endura MT500

At first glance, the Endura MT500 stands out from the crowd with its unusual design. Endura combines conventional EPS foam with a material supplied by tech-manufacturer Koroyd, which consists of a honeycomb composite formed by thousands of small tubes of extruded plastic. The Koroyd technology is said to absorb the impact energy more linearly throughout an impact and thus offers a significantly higher level of safety than classic helmet designs. The manufacturer is actively supporting the introduction of new testing methods with lower tolerance limits. The new technology has been met with some controversy so we are not ready to give a final verdict just yet.

What we can say, however, is that the Endura MT500 delivered a solid performance in our practical test. The workmanship is flawless, the design pleasantly modern and the concept entirely new. Unfortunately, not all Koroyd elements are neatly integrated into the shell, a number of unattractive kinks and gaps cast a dark cloud over the overall positive impression. Goggle wearers will get their money’s worth with the adjustable visor and the strap-clip at the back of the head. The MT500 also features a removable mount for an action-cam or light. Ventilation is good at slow speeds and on climbs, but other helmets offer noticeably more airflow at higher speeds. Unfortunately, the Endura doesn’t implement additional safety features.
