Madison DTE 3-Layer Storm Jacket

UK brand Madison are pulling no punches with their DTE 3-Layer Storm Jacket, boasting many great features at a bargain price. The 20,000 mm / 20,000 g/m² shell is fully seam sealed for maximum protection, and waterproof zippers, while not invulnerable, do keep most of the water out. The hood is a great design, offering ample space for a helmet, and stows neatly away when not being used. Care has been taken with details too and all the zippers have long tabs to make them easy to use with gloves on. Long underarm zips and forward facing vents keep you cool and a silicone print on the shoulders keeps your pack in place. If you have the collar right up to shelter from the storm, perforations in the material keep it well ventilated. On long rides in the rain we were kept exceptionally dry.

However the DWR coating did lose its impressive beading performance after a good soaking. The main thing we did not like was the fit, with a lot of excess material and significant flapping in the wind. The cut is very boxy, good if you are a boxy person, but it split our testers. It’s also heavy and bulky when rolled up so best for the colder months.

The Madison DTE 3-Layer Storm Jacket is a hardcore jacket for hardcore rides, with enough features to provide shelter in any storm. We weren’t quite as impressed by the fit though, which was boxy with a lot of loose material around the middle.
