The ION RASCAL in Detail
The new clipless debutant from ION goes by the name of RASCAL. It comes in two colors (black or blue) and 11 sizes ranging from 37 to 47. Thanks to its SupTraction Rubber Soul CL (with CL standing for clipless) and EVA midsole, the RASCAL is reputed to boast sufficient stiffness for efficient energy transfer to your pedals as well as simultaneously dishing up enough flexibility to allow you to walk without discomfort. In the heel zone, ION has even boosted the level of flex to permit optimal control when riding.
Weaving in key design aspects, the shoe features a distinctive Velcro strap on the upper, dubbed the Serpen_Tie, which keeps your ankle secure while also guaranteeing a firm bond between the foot and the cleat. The robust toecap protects your toes, while the raised inner guards your ankles from stray trail debris and the cranks. The high quality inner sole aims to support your feet and deliver additional comfort with its built-in damping in the heel zone. In a size 42, a pair of shoes weighs a tidy 450 g. ION have also paid their dues to durability, but we can’t confirm that until we see how it fares on test.
