The first test of the ION RASCAL

ION-Rascal-Vane-Amp-New-Shoes-29

We’ve just had the opportunity to trial a pre-production model of the all-new ION RASCAL. We took a size 42, noting that it felt about half a size bigger than we’ve come to expect. The fit was prime, and satisfyingly narrower than other current models on the market, such as FiveTens. The laces and Velcro strap keep the shoe snug and evenly tightened without any real blister-causing capability. The recess for the cleats is pretty substantial so they’re unlikely to wear much while walking. Even when not clipped in, the shoes gripped well on the Crank Brother Mallet pedals. Even with pre-production model, we couldn’t fault the manufacturing and wise choice of materials. When considering stiffness and weight, the ION RASCAL passed with flying colors, and it definitely boasts a strong look that’s easy on the eye.

Our conclusion on the new ION shoes

While it’s still early days for the ION shoes on test and our findings are going to draw on durability too, we’re absolutely stoked after our initial rides in them. Both visually and in terms of performance, the RASCAL models seem to have nailed it and we can see them becoming a veritable force on the market against more established brands. Can we say the same for the VANE_AMP? Well, it’s still too early to say but things are looking positive although we haven’t yet put the sole through the wringer in filthy enough conditions. One thing is for sure though: the shoe market is going to get two brilliant shoes richer come 2017.

More information on the ION shoes will soon be available on the ION website.
