First Ride | Publicly funded MORGAW TRIAN saddle

Funded by 462 strong-willed believers from IndieGoGo, MORGAW are attempting to wow the cycling industry with their new line of innovative saddles which incorporate the idea of car shock absorbers into each range set for release.

Martin Moravcik and Slawek Gawlik, both ex-pro MTB riders and part owners of the Slovakian company, boast that they have identified key deficiencies in currently marketed saddle design elements and in 2011, started development on their product which could potentially eliminate these weaknesses, while at the same time meeting the needs of professional and active riders.

MORGAW claim that in conventional saddles, most of the shocks are pointing to the spine which can cause discomfort when riding and lead to back pain, whilst their patented shock absorbers displace these impacts. Three different levels of shock absorption are available with the saddle rail holders. Soft for riders up to 70kg, medium for between 70–85kg and hard for over 85kg up to a maximum weight of 100kg.

Andreas took it for a 30km spin and here’s what he thought:

“MORGAW feature their non-slip surface (which does a good job so far) on their entire range, and upon first impressions, have thought quite thoroughly about rider comfort and usability. Despite how rough the material looks, the firm padding and the need to mount it a little more forward than other saddles, it’s incredibly comfortable.

You can immediately tell the shock absorbers compensate by adapting to the rider pedal movement, and comparative to other saddles which have attempted to use this technology, Morgaw have obviously done their product testing. With no ‘wiggle’ when planted to the saddle, the Trian keeps you optimally comfortable while pedalling. A very well made product!

For actual shock absorbency testing I’ll need not only more frequent, longer rides, but harder tyre pressure, suspension locked for extended periods etc – but for the time being, this saddle is definitely working.”

Andreas concludes:

“At the end of the day, the saddle is supremely comfortable. No bone or blood circulation issues around our most ‘vital’ areas. Officially the first saddle I didn’t have to get out of after a couple of minutes to stop the pain that’s building up. Very optimistic, but it may by the best saddle I’ve ever ridden.”

A large range of customization is offered for all rider preferences, from aluminium (119,00 $) or carbon rails (149,00 $) to a selection of three coloured skins on the saddle and even to the colour of the bolts.
