My precious! Just like Gollum craves the One Ring, many mountain bikers long for FOX’s fancy Kashima coating. In our big dropper post comparison test, we tested the FOX Transfer Factory dropper post with a mighty 240 mm of travel – find out how it fared!

FOX are known for their extensive product portfolio, which includes not only suspension forks and shocks but also dropper posts. The American manufacturer just introduced a revised version of their popular FOX Transfer Factory dropper post. The 2025 Transfer Factory has already performed well in our first ride review – but now we’re taking a closer look at it in this comparison test. However, this is also an in-house comparison: the biggest change over the previous generation, which was introduced in 2020, is that the travel has grown from 200 mm to an impressive 240 mm.

You can find an overview of this comparison test here: The best dropper post.

The FOX Transfer Dropper Post is available in travel options of 120 mm, 150 mm, 180 mm, 210 mm, and, of course, the 240 mm, which is the version we tested. It comes in diameters of 30.8 mm, 31.6 mm, and 34.9 mm.
A handy feature of the 2025 FOX Transfer is that the travel can be easily reduced without the need for tools using the included spacers. Each spacer is 5 mm thick, allowing you to shorten the travel by up to 25 mm in 5 mm increments. To adjust, simply lower the dropper by 25 mm, unscrew the collar, and slide in the desired number of spacers.

Regardless of travel length or diameter, the FOX Transfer Factory retails at € 449, which makes it one of the most expensive cable-operated dropper posts in this test field. If the gold Kashima coating is a tad too much for you, you can pick the Performance Elite version, which relies on a black anodised stanchion and retails at € 369. Aside from the coating, it’s identical to the Factory version. Much like dental crowns, gold is nice to have but not strictly necessary.

The FOX Transfer Factory Dropper Post is the longest-travel dropper post in the entire test field together with the OneUp V3, which is considerably cheaper. However, both models offer an impressive 240 mm of travel. That said, the FOX Transfer Factory also has the longest insertion depth in this test at 364 mm, which is 22 mm more than the OneUp V3.

Visually, the new FOX dropper stays true to its predecessor but features a redesigned saddle clamp. Like the Turnon Bunker dropper post, it boasts the second-lowest stack height in this test at 35 mm – nice! For € 118, you can get the matching remote, which comes with a standard clamp as well as Matchmaker and I-SPEC adapters for tidy cockpit integration.

Under the saddle clamp hides a valve cap that allows you to inflate the FOX dropper. When fully extended, you can adjust the pressure between 275 and 325 PSI to adapt the extension speed of the dropper to suit your preference and rider weight. Maintenance is straightforward, and can be performed at home without the need for special tools.

A Schrader valve hides under the saddle clamp.
The FOX Transfer Factory Dropper Post is also affectionately called “Giraffe.”

Once the dropper post is installed in the frame, the remote can be seamlessly integrated into the cockpit using the included adapters and adjusted ergonomically via two mounting points. The cable is secured with an additional screw, and the cable’s end can be tucked into the lever to prevent loose ends from sticking out – a very smart detail.
The remote operates smoothly, allowing you to stop the dropper at any height precisely and with minimal effort.

Over the course of our months-long test, the FOX Transfer Factory proved extremely reliable. Actuation was smooth and fluid throughout the entire testing period. With its impressive speed and the distinct “clunk” noise at the end of the travel, it makes it easy to transition into uphill sections.
The return speed is on par with the RockShox Reverb AXS, though the BikeYoke REVIVE 3.0 has even more punch. Thanks to its adjustable air cartridge, the FOX Transfer Factory provides excellent resistance when dropping, ensuring that even heavier riders can descend without dropping abruptly through their bike.

Conclusions about the FOX Transfer Factory dropper post

The 2025 Transfer Factory Dropper Post impresses with its extension speed and reliability. Many of the issues from the previous version have been fixed with the new internals, which also make servicing significantly easier. Additional highlights include the low stack height and the simple adjustable travel system. Aside from the insertion depth and the higher price compared to the competition in this test field, the Transfer remains a great dropper post that we’re always happy to ride.
