The Italian bike parts manufacturer FRM Biketechnology launched their new 29″ aluminium wheelset FRM METEOR i30 HRS. The 30 mm inner rim width combined with a claimed weight of 1,525g could be an interesting options for 29er riders looking for a light and wide wheelset. More information on the new wheels in the press release:

The main features of the FRM METEOR i30 HRS

The FRM METEOR i30 HRS is an upgrade from the Meteor XC i30. The 30mm inner width promise a high stiffness while the whole set is specified at a weight of only 1.525g (1.575g boost).

Benchmarkt data

  • EVO i30 rims are hard anodised with 28holes only
  • The 28 spokes are the much lighter and very exclusive Sapim Super Spoke 1,8-1,4-1,8mm instead of 32 Sapim Laser 2.0-1,5-2,0mm
  • Enduro bearings which are treated by Zero factory for much lower friction and longer lasting

The Meteor i30 HRS can also be compatible with the Rock Shox RS-1, Cannondale Lefty Super Max forks and Boost standards.

Details of the wheelset

The FRM Hubs and rims are made in Italy. They are generally tubeless ready for standard tyres with sealant. The FRM i30 HRS 20″ rims have a 30mm inner width at 28 spokes. They are hard anodised to avoid scratches and discolour.

The rims have a 3mm asymmetric profile.
The rims have a 3mm asymmetric profile.

The asymmetric profile (3mm) enables a lower difference in spoke tension beteween right and left sides. The tension difference between right und left spokes is less than 5% for a much more stable wheel. The 30mm inner width of the rim increases the tire stability and allows the wheelset to be ridden with a pressure as low as 1 bar. The tyre has less lateral shift and increased absorbtion which allows to ride a higher speed on all terrains. The low weight of 1.525g with standard axles augurs a fast performance.

The wheelset is built up with Sapim Super Spokes 1,8-1,4-1,8mm. They come along at one length only (284mm). The hubs are the new FRM Meteor or Meteor Boost at 28 holes. Hub bearings are treated by Zero Factory for a substantial reduction of their friction (-35% friction, +42% wear resistance compared to non-treated bearings). The FRM METEOR i30 HRS are supplied with Sram XD 11s f/w, QR15/X12 plugs and Kit Tubeless Tape.

FRM offer a Crash Replacement Programme, in which returned rims are replaced at 50% of the price list. The rider’s weight limit is indicated with 100kg.

Delivery Options

  • Bolt Thru-Axle or Lever Task Team quick releases
  • 10 or 11s Shimano freewheel
  • 500 or 1.000cc sealant
  • Meteor Bearing Tool Kit

The Wheelset will be available at the End of March 2016 at a prize of €1,343.00.
