The Lab #026: Parts and equipment long term reviews

Lupine Wilma R 7

Seriously, how good does a light need to be in order to justify a price tag of € 500? Well, after a full year being subjected to merciless long-term testing, battling rain, snow, dust, stifling heat, condensation, and the icy cold, we can say with certainty that it has to be at least as good as the Lupine Wilma R 7. Immaculately manufactured with a nicely compact design, it delivers eye-wateringly good performance in every (tested) condition. It even exceeded the hype, and makes going out in the dark that bit less testing. As it weighs 123 grams, it’s not the lightest light on the trail, but it makes up for those extra grams with its features. Plus, it sits so securely on the helmet that you’ll forget you’re wearing it. The ability to control it remotely via bluetooth is a luxury that we’ll be reluctant to give up in the future. There’s also a ton of other mounts and attachments so this light isn’t just limited to riding; it’ll work for any outdoor sport or even just tinkering in the shed late at night (there you go, another justification for the price). There’s a free app that not only reveals the battery life, temperature, and other details, but also allows you to adjust the light levels or even add new ones. (However, it’s worth mentioning that the app hasn’t always been reliable.) Since the app’s performance isn’t exactly crucial, we’d still state that this light verges on perfect, and in our view is totally worth the price.

  • Manufacturing, performance, reliability
  • Remote control via Bluetooth
  • Not limited to riding

  • App not always 100% reliable
