This new technology concept created by Klein Designs promises to bridge the gap between flats and clips with a radical redesign of both shoes and pedals. Described as the perfect hybrid between a flat and clipped pedal by it’s creator, this radical redesign looks to shake up the mtb footwear and pedal market.
According to the designer, the use of this honeycomb design will offer greater flexibility and safety over the traditional flat and clipped platforms.

The project is looking for $35,000 of funding via a ‘Kickstarter’ campaign before it can begin development and production so it remains to be seen whether this design would have a place alongside the traditional systems.

The advantages stated by the designer sound great, the quick and easy foot placement/removal, the day to day usability and the removal of the sharp flat pedal pins, but we’re not sure such a drastic redesign will have a foothold in such a competitive market. A few concerns of ours are the lack of adjustability on the ‘clipped’ position and unknown wet weather performance with the tread pattern likely to have poor mud shedding capabilities.

If you think this is the future of pedal design and would like to try this concept in the future then why not head over to kickstarter and help get the project on it’s feet:
