Pro Bike Check: Katy Winton’s Trek Remedy 29 Team Issue
Katy Winton is Trek Factory Racing’s new young gun signing (you can read the interview here) and under the guidance of legend Tracy Moseley is looking fit and ready for the 2016 Enduro World Series season. We caught up with Katy to check out her new Trek Remedy 29 Team Issue EWS race bike.
Katy Winton’s Trek Remedy 29 brake setup
Unusually for a UK rider, Katy does not run her brakes moto (right-hand front). When her bike mad dad took a trip to the states many years ago he made the decision to run Katy’s brakes on the other side, and she has done so ever since. Katy runs the back brake with the bite point further out, and unusually has always run the front brake at a higher angle with a bite point closer to the bars, which she finds provides more balance and stops her pulling the front brake when not needed. She is running the new XTR brakes with the revised piston design, and she loves the smooth modulation.
Trek Remedy 29 Di2 gearing setup
Katy will be running the Shimano Di2 gears, and is very impressed. “The shifts are super crisp and what I like most is the speed when coming out of a corner you can bang, bang, bang through the gears to get instantly up to speed.” She will race with a 30 T on the front with a chain guide and a 11×40 T cassette. Katy is looking forward to running some 2x drivetrains on her bikes “the Synchro setting sounds perfect and I like the extended range and improved chain line (continuous shifting over two front rings with one shifter)”.
Trek Remedy 29 Team Issue suspension setup.
Katy has worked with FOX technicians on her suspension setup. Despite her light weight of 56 kg, Katy's aggressive style mean she runs her FOX 36 fork with an orange volume adjuster to improve balance and minimise diving under hard braking, the rear FOX Float X Factory shock is also fitted with spacers. Katy runs 60 in the front and 153 psi in the back. Katy is still setting up the bike for the season and will likely make changes to suit certain tracks and events after more work with FOX.
