Race Report: Superenduro EXperience – Coggiola
This year’s first stop of the Superenduro series took place in Coggiola, Italy. What happened and who won the first “EXperience Race”, this report will tell you. “As Enduro addicted, we could not wait longer to start the season and it was worth the trip from Frieburg to race in Coggiola”. All said!
Coggiola gave birth to Alex and Danny Lupato, son of a passionate mountain biker, Fulvio, who’s the man behind the flawy mid mountain natural trails, that suit modern enduro bikes like a well made glove. Coggiola became in 3 years one of the “classic” stop of the Italian Superenduro race series. For 2014 the new format called EXperience, replaces the Sprint races and is trimmed to let newcomers try Superenduro race, as well as give some more trails and occasion for the top riders to race and train for the event that give the points for the overall Superenduro series, the PRO events.
As usual the Superenduro organization teams with local bike club and village association to welcome the riders and provide good racing and great fun. This year was no difference and with great surprise of the local inhabitants that host riders in their houses, European bikers have answered the call. Swiss, Germans, French have been a great “topping” to the Italian riders, and reminded us that Enduro is about biking with your friends on a normal weekend, but in the race mode. And get to know new people, especially when sitting around the table eating local made ravioli.
On the 3 stages Danny Lupato won 2, leaving his brother Alex just 1 win, but thanks to the higher gap Alex made it for the win.
On the 3rd step of the podium the french specialist and multi time Mega winner, Remy Absalon on his new Scott. The french gave 100% on the runs but Lupato’s brother have been unbeatable on their local trails.
In the women class an International podium opened the Superenduro season with France Italy and Switzerlad well represented by Cecile Ravanel, Chiara Pastore and Anita Gherig. We bet this will be a list motive in many Superenduro races, one of the older series in Europe that sees a lot of foreign riders, enjoying the races as well as food and local culture that Italy has to offer. Ah, la Bella Italia!
