Birzman Studio Tool Box – Our “Best in test”

Toolkits Werzeugkoffer Test Review 2 von 2 1 1140x760

The selection of tools in Birzman’s kit is exemplary. It’s the only kit in our test which includes the complete range from both our mandatory and “nice to have” lists. It also includes useful additional tools such as an Ahead star nut setter, a small file and a saw guide – this last one is very helpful to shorten carbon handlebars. But not just the choice of tools is impressive: Birzman also delivers the same high-quality products we are used to seeing from top brands like Feedback Sports, Park Tool, Pedros and Unior. The only weak point is the contact surface of the bottom bracket tool which could be a little deeper. While working fine on bottom brackets, we struggled to get the tool to grip properly on centerlock rings because it couldn’t reach over some hubs’ end caps. Lezyne or Topeak managed this better.

The case itself is sturdy, compact for the amount of tools it contains and well-organised thanks to a removable insert. All tools are properly anchored, only the clamping force varies from tool to tool; some sit tighter in the mould than others. One additional feature of the Studio Tool Box is the big, high-quality closed-cell foam separation-mat which can be used either as a clean collection-point for screws and bits or as a kneeling mat for repairs in the wilderness. Our only criticism goes to the lack of space for additional tools in the actual case. But having said that, there’s not much missing anyway…

The Birzman Studio Tool Box currently offers the best combination between a comprehensive range of useful tools, outstanding quality and a cleverly thought-out and robust packaging. There were absolutely no compromises made with this set and the price is perfectly reasonable for what you get. A deserved test win!
