Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBoSC) is proud to welcome BELL as Title Sponsor of the 2013 Santa Cruz Mountain Super Enduro (SCSE), returning October 11-13 to the Soquel Demonstration State Forest (SDSF aka Demo). 2013 marks the second year that the Scotts Valley-based bicycle helmets manufacturer has partnered with this grassroots enduro event that raises funds for bike projects throughout Santa Cruz county. This world-wide industry leader’s generosity demonstrates their commitment to enduro and to the local mountain biking community.
“MBoSC is really excited to have BELL onboard as title sponsor for the Santa Cruz Super Enduro,” says Steven Gemelos, Director of the Santa Cruz Super Enduro. “BELL really gets what we are doing with this event – putting on an amazing enduro race, and an awesome weekend event that captures the soul of mountain biking and enduro. It’s social, it’s fun, it’s competitive… it challenges each rider to push themselves and test their limits. We want our participants to feel this was their best weekend in 2013 on 2 wheels.”
BELL Helmets Sports Marketing Manager/Event Coordinator, Allan Cooke, expresses the same enthusiasm, stating “We here at BELL are extremely excited to partner with MBoSC in putting on the Santa Cruz Super Enduro. The event is the perfect mix of trail advocacy, racing, riding with friends and is right in our back yard. It would be stupid on our part not to give an event like this our full support.”
BELL is joined by event sponsors Clif Bar, Dirt Rag magazine, ENDURO Mountain Bike Magazine, Formula, FOX, Gamut USA, Gravity Anomaly, GU Energy, Kali Protectives, Pivot Cycles, Saris/CycleOps, Sports Basement and Trail Head Cyclery. Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz Super Enduro appreciate the support of these industry and community businesses and organizations.
The Santa Cruz Super Enduro is set to run as a weekend-long event filled with racing, riding and rad activities to enjoy with good friends, on some of the best trails in Santa Cruz with camping offered virtually on-site at Camp Loma. The event will cap off the inaugural season of the highly successful California Enduro Series (CES).
Last year, MBoSC made history with the addition of Santa Cruz’s debut BELL Super Enduro to the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival’s competitive events line-up. The Euro-style enduro was the first-ever legally sanctioned race at Soquel Demonstration State Forest (Demo) and attracted 177 applicants with pro and amateur riders from near and far vying for the coveted 50 available spots.
The success of 2012’s inaugural event earned praise from SDSF land manager CAL Fire and prompted the approval of a larger, more inclusive 200 racer field for the 2013 Santa Cruz Super Enduro, including beginner, junior, sport, expert and pro categories.
General registration for the 2013 Santa Cruz Super Enduro opened on Aug 8 at 8pm. Impressively, all 200 spots sold out in just over 2 hours filling all categories with participants from all over California, as well as New Mexico, Utah, Ohio and Michigan.
Camping and weekend activities including food and beer, evening entertainment, fun rides, trail work and demos will be available to racers, spectators and other enduro revelers. Volunteers are needed and will be well rewarded with camping, food, beer and swag.
The mission of the SCSE is to support the demand for quality enduro race opportunities in California, to promote the world class mountain biking trails in Santa Cruz County and to bring awareness to the Santa Cruz community at large about mountain biking and the positive role it can play economically, socially and environmentally.
