Sea Otter 2015 | New Versatile Fat Bike: the Pivot Les Fat
As early as January when Pivot first introduced their new Les Fat carbon fat bike, its versatility was on high on the agenda. And this year’s Sea Otter Festival saw the emergence of the impressive Pivot Les Fat in a 27.5+ version.
Fat bikes are special, fact. Their extremely wide tyres render them genuine snow and sand specialists, vastly altering the riding experience compared to a regular MTB. A niche product then, you could say, and one whose purchase isn’t necessarily worth it for everyone.
To reduce this issue and increase their potential for usage, Pivot set about trying to fashion the Les Fat frame to be as versatile as possible. Thanks to their patented Swinger II dropout system, both the chainstay length and the height of the bottom bracket can be adjusted to suit multiple wheel sizes and tyre widths; not only is the Les Fat optimally suited for fat bike tyres (4″ – 5″), but can also comfortably take the new 27.5″+ and 29″+ wheels.
The Pivot Les Fat is testament to just how much wheel and tyre size can influence your ride. And at the same time, it proves just how much potential one single frame can have: how to get the maximum gains and to create a much vaster field of use for one specialist bike. Come winter, it’s a fun fat bike, but summer sees it take on the form of an agile 27.5+ bike. This is a feat that (only) a Pivot Les Fat has achieved.
