Conclusion
With the new version of the Stumpjumper Specialized succeeds in creating an outstanding trail bike which proves what bikes in this travel-class are capable of. With clever features and an incredible love for detail, the new Stumpy stands out from the crowd. The tech-nerds amongst us will love the ingenious cable routing system, the threaded bottom bracket, the easily accessible rear shock and the lack of proprietary standard-faff. The clever SWAT door in the down tube is a unique selling point which cleverly complements the tool-storage on the frame (or head-tube on the S-Works). Above all its superb handling really impressed us on the trail – we couldn’t point out one single drawback after this short test.
But which of the three bikes is the right one for you? While all three models perfectly suit their purpose the standard Stumpjumper proved to be the most versatile member of Specialized’s trail family. With its lively handling, the Stumpjumper ST is recommended for riders who spend less time on challenging trails and fancy a more direct ride-feeling. With the new EVO Specialized makes a brave move towards more radical geometries but aims at a slim target group – many potential buyers would probably be better off with the Specialized Enduro.
