Norwegian brand Sweet Protection just launched the Fixer Carbon 2Vi, a seriously stylish and impressively lightweight full face helmet – and it’s already earned its stripes on the World Cup circuit. But is this sleek carbon lid really worth its hefty €699 price tag? We’ve spent six months putting it through its paces in bike parks and out on the trails to find out whether it actually lives up to the hype – and if it’s worth its weight in gold.

Sweet Protection have built a strong reputation for top-tier helmets across the gravity and action sports scene. And their expertise doesn’t stop at mountain biking – they’re also a trusted name on winter slopes and in whitewater sports. In early 2025, the Norwegian manufacturer has expanded its range with the brand new Sweet Protection Fixer Carbon 2Vi. The helmet has already made waves on the World Cup circuit with Vali Höll and at Crankworx events with Emil Johansson. Featuring the MIPS safety system, the Fixer Carbon tips the scales at just 1,025 g in size L, which puts it on the lighter end of the spectrum for full face helmets. When it comes to price, though, Sweet Protection aren’t holding back – the Fixer Carbon retails at a very confident € 699, which places it shoulder to shoulder with other high-end lids like the Troy Lee D4 Carbon. That said, you can already find it online for closer to € 500 if you shop around.

We’ve put the Fixer Carbon through the wringer over six months of hard riding – from dusty days in the bike park to muddy shuttle laps and bone-rattling trails. So, how does the Norwegian premium helmet hold up when the going gets rough?

The Sweet Protection Fixer Carbon 2Vi up close

At first glance, the Sweet Protection Fixer Carbon 2Vi makes its intentions crystal clear. The slick carbon prepreg shell doesn’t just look the part – according to the brand, it also strikes a careful balance between stiffness and flex, offering serious protection while keeping weight down. Inside, Sweet Protection rely on a dual-layer MIPS system, integrated into their proprietary 2Vi® technology platform. It’s designed to reduce rotational forces, particularly in angled impacts – something that’s often overlooked in standard helmet testing. This setup is complemented by what they call Multi-Density EPS Impact Shields at the front and rear of the helmet. These layers of foam with varying densities are designed to absorb impact energy more effectively and spread it evenly across the shell.

The visor of the Sweet Protection Fixer Carbon 2Vi can be adjusted in two positions and is designed to snap off in the event of a crash to help reduce the risk of injury. For emergencies, the cheek pads can be quickly removed. You also get two sets of cheek pads in different thicknesses in the box, which allows you to fine-tune the fit to suit your face shape. With 11 strategically placed vents, Sweet Protection claim the helmet keeps air moving and heat buildup under control. The chin bar is secured using a classic titanium double D-ring closure, in keeping with what you’d expect from a proper full face lid.

As you’d hope from a high-end helmet, the Fixer Carbon 2Vi ticks all the right boxes when it comes to safety certifications. It meets both the European and US standards for bicycle helmets, along with the downhill-specific ASTM F1952-15 certification. For e-bike riders, there’s more good news: it also complies with the NTA 8776 safety standard. Sweet Protection also offer two matching goggles for the Fixer: the Firewall (€ 89) and the Durden (€ 99), both of which fit snugly and seamlessly with the helmet’s eye port. That said, we also tested the Oakley Airbrake goggles, and they paired up just fine – meaning that goggle compatibility is excellent. The Sweet Protection Fixer Carbon 2Vi is available in five sizes, XS to XL, and comes in two colour options: a stealthy Matte Black Carbon and a brighter Bronco White.

For anyone willing to forgo the sleek carbon look and carry a few extra grams on their head, Sweet Protection offer a more affordable alternative with the Fixer Composite 2Vi. While it does come in a bit heavier, its € 449 price tag is much easier on the wallet and it features the same protection technology.

Sweet Protection Fixer Carbon 2Vi on test

The Sweet Protection Fixer Carbon 2Vi makes a premium impression, with its matte carbon finish looking every bit as refined as you’d expect. The helmet’s clean lines and seamless transitions add to the high-quality feel. It fits snugly without causing pressure points and remains comfortable even after long bike park sessions. Nothing rubs or chafes, and the cheek pads are covered in a durable yet soft-touch fabric that effectively absorbs sweat without instantly releasing it. Instead of feeling soaking wet, the pads stay damp and cool, giving you a refreshing feel when putting the helmet back on during a full day of riding.

Even on a hot summer day, ventilation is convincing and there’s always a pleasant airflow across your face. The wide field of vision gives you a good overview of the trail, and the visor can be adjusted quickly and without tools. Compared directly to other helmets like the new FOX Rampage RS or Smith Hardline Carbon, the Fixer Carbon sits slightly further forward on the head, which brings the chin bar closer to the face – although this becomes less noticeable over time as the padding settles a bit.

The only real point of criticism: the end of the double D-ring strap has to be placed onto a small magnet integrated into the strap after fastening. While it holds securely, it’s a bit fiddly, especially with gloves on or when your fingers are cold.
