Hope Tech3 E4

Disc-Brake-Group-Test-2016-#22-29

Manufactured in-house in Hope’s production facility in Barnoldswick, the machined T6 aluminium caliper and lever looks stunning. The moto-inspired styling impressed the testers, and when it comes to adjustability the Tech 3 lever is the best in the group, allowing you to put the bite point exactly where you want it. The caliper houses four 16-millimeter phenolic pistons that put out a very respectable braking torque of 101 Nm during lab testing. Delivering their ample power with a single finger in a smooth wave of deceleration on the trail, the Hopes instantly delighted testers who love creamy modulation. However, testers who love the sharp response of Formula and Shimano were left wanting a bit more bite.

When the trail was muddy the Hopes were king, ensuring that maximum torque could be put down without skidding. Where Hope’s Tech 3 / E4 are real winners is in their rugged durability. After a season of hard use, we didn’t have to bleed them once, and even during long Alpine descents, the bite point and performance remained consistent. If you get excited by beautiful machining and love modulation and smooth power delivery, these brakes from Hope are exceptional, and very nearly took the win in this test.
