It’s one of the filthy grey days in winter when the city is shrouded in cloud and the gutters threaten to overflow with rainwater. But there’s one face in Germany that’s still smiling, and he’s even got a cheeky glint in his eye: meet Chris, the lucky winner of the 12,600-strong ENDURO Readers Survey who’s just about to get his hands on a SCOTT Genius LT 720 Plus.
We’re meeting Chris on an industrial estate just north of Munich. It’s 10:00 am, and the weather is as grey as the buildings around us. With the temperature hovering around freezing, it isn’t exactly the most tempting weather for a ride, but this is the day that Julian from SCOTT is going to hand over the new brand SCOTT Genius LT Plus to Chris, who was one of more than 12,600 of you that took part in the ENDURO Readers Survey, and managed to bag his luck and win a seriously lush bike. Here’s a photo story of the day:
10.00 am, Germany. Grey sky, grey concrete building but no reason to mope in view of the imminent bike handover.
Having travelled more than 500 km with his Dad, Chris is met by Julian, the marketing manager at SCOTT’s HQ in Germany.First off they’re treated to a tour of the HQ, beginning in the showroom.#NoShortcuts!Over a decent cup of coffee and some of Bavaria’s finest butter pretzels, Julian gives a run-down of SCOTT’s history.Who knew that SCOTT’s first ever product was a set of aluminum ski poles? And that the brand still keep true to the skiing roots … … which is evident from the vast range on display in the showroom. Come summer there’ll be more than 200 different bikes on show.Much more than just great bike designers, those skis don’t look bad at all. The tour continues … Some of SCOTT Germany’s 30 employees work in this pretty airy, light-flooded room. Best F**** advert on the market! After checking out the office spaces, we head into the expansive workshop and warehouse – inching ever closer to the prize. But first we have to take a proper look at this classic, that bike we all dreamt about: the SCOTT High Octane – every flat dropper and stair gapper’s dream.Although this model with the Pullshock rear shock is no less wild. The walls are lined with a veritable historic documentation of bikes.True classics! This is where they store the test bikes for the many events taking place throughout the year. And then there it was: Chris’s new bike. So excited, he can barely string a word together.Damn, this is what a satisfied winner looks like! Congrats and enjoy the new ride! After the handover and obligatory winner’s photos, it’s time to set-up the bike. Check the sag … … use the right tyre pressure. Followed by some serious tech talk and useful tips.
Chris’s new Scott Genius LT 720 Plus in its full glory! Chris is stoked. Until this point he’d been riding a 3×10 drivetrain, and now he’s about to set off on a bike featuring super responsive suspension, grippy plus-size tyres and a snappy 1×11 drivetrain. Nice! Seriously, is this what happens when birthdays and Christmas combine?
