Canyon add light-weight Neuron CF SLX to their portfolio

The Canyon Neuron family gets a new, extra light-weight addition for 2020… Introducing the Canyon Neuron CF SLX Ltd. The new top-of-the-range Neuron gets a brand new carbon frame which saves a chunk of weight over its stablemates, a drool-worthy spec and a pretty awesome paint-job! We have all the most important info for you, right here!

The new Canyon Neuron CF SLX is lighter!

With a frame-only weight coming in at a claimed 2280 grams (size medium), the new Neuron CF SLX model is claimed to be 250 grams lighter than its predecessor. So, how did Canyon manage to shave off a quarter kilo from the frame alone? Canyon credit the weight saving to their use of special 40T UD (unidirectional) carbon fibre. As well as saving grams, the new carbon layup is said to be stiffer too, increasing the tensile strength of the mainframe and the rear triangle. The designers at Canyon decided to pay homage to the carbon by finishing the frame with a “Tinted Black” clear lacquer, that lets you gaze at the carbon layup beneath it whenever you feel the urge.

Features of the new Canyon Neuron CF SLX

The Neuron CF SLX retains the 130 mm travel of its stablemates in the Neuron family, and 29/27.5” wheels depending on size – sizes XS and S get the smaller 27.5” wheels, and sizes M/L/XL roll on 29” setups. The frame has space for a sideloading bottle cage inside the front triangle and features a steering limiter that Canyon call their “Impact Protection Unit”. The full-carbon frame has fully sealed bearings and a removable mount for a front derailleur, as well as Canyon’s “Quixle” quick-release thru-axle.

Geometry of the new Canyon Neuron CF SLX

The geometry of the Neuron CF SLX stays the same as all the current Neuron CF builds, including the Neuron CF 8.0 which we reviewed earlier this year. Its geometry is certainly more conservative than radical and designed with the touring rider in mind. A comfortable yet sporty position for long days in the saddle was paramount, as this bike slots in somewhere between Canyon’s Lux XC bike and their Spectral trail/enduro all-rounder.

The Neuron CF SLX looks like a welcome addition to Canyon’s 130 mm travel trail/touring platform. Its low weight is impressive and combined with its dream spec and low price, we expect this touring rocket to be a popular choice!
