Germany’s resident helmet specialists Uvex presented two exciting new enduro helmets yesterday at a product launch in Ötztal. These two new helmets – the Jakyll hde with a removable chin protector and the more affordable Finale – were designed in close cooperation with Uvex team riders Michal Prokop and Max Schumann.

The Jakyll hde helmet with removable chin protector

Uvex have been working on the new Jakyll hde for over a year, with the sole aim of developing a helmet that offers optimal ventilation on climbs and maximal protection on descents. The Jakyll hde has a fiberglass chin protector, which can be attached and removed rapidly with just a few hand motions. Hitting the shelves early next year with a price of 199.95 €, the helmet will come in two sizes (52-57 cm / 56-61 cm) and two colour models. According to Uvex, the helmet, including chin protector, weighs around 630g.

Der Helm verfügt über insgesamt 14 große Ventilationsöffnungen die für optimale Belüftung sorgen sollen.
In total the helmet has 14 large air vents, which should guarantee optimal airflow.
Mit Hilfe des 360° BOA-System soll der Helm fest am Kopf fixiert werden.
Thanks to the 360° BOA system the helmet should fit firmly on the rider’s head.
Anders als andere Hersteller fertigt Uvex den Kinnschutz nicht im Spritzverfahren, sondern laminiert ihn aus Glasfaser was zu einer deutlich höheren Steifigkeit führen soll.
Unlike other manufacturers, Uvex didn’t opt for production using injection molding; instead they used a laminated construction with fiberglass, which they think has produced a significantly stronger chin protector.
Auch der Kinnschutz ist noch nicht final und wird in Serie über eine leichte Polsterung verfügen. Auf Fliegengitter verzichtet Uvex jedoch.
The chin protector hasn’t reached its end development yet and will come as stock with some light cushioning. Uvex have decided not to add a fly net.
Der Kinnbügel wird mit zwei Haken am Helm eingehängt und dann mit zwei Drehverschlüssen sicher fixiert.
The chin frame is hung onto the helmet with two hooks and then securely fastened with two screws.
Da der Kinnbügel sehr steif ist werden alle Kräfte über die große Auflagefläche in den Helm eingeleitet.
The stiffness of the chin protector means that any impacts will be guided into the helmet.
Auf der Hinterseite sorgt eine kleine Nase für den sicheren Sitz des Goggle-Bands.
There’s a small hook at the back to keep the goggle strap in place.
Für Uphills lässt sich die Goggle direkt unter dem Visier "parken" und ist so bei Bedarf schnell erreichbar.
The goggles can be ‘parked’ directly above the visor on climbs, and they’re easy to grab back when necessary.
Der Jakyll Helm ist auch ohne den Kinnschutz erhältlich und begeistert durch seine edle und sportive Optik.
The Jakyll helmet also comes minus the chin protector and has a really cool, sporty look. The individual helmet cashes in at 159.95 €.

The Uvex Finale

The second newbie to enter Uvex’s helmet collection is the Uvex Finale. This helmet from this historic German company is particularly well suited to trail riders who appreciate a helmet’s low-slung side protection and a large surface area at the rear too. Despite the big contact area, the 20 air vents should keep your head nice and cool. This helmet, retailing at 109.95€, will be available in four colours (royal blue-cyan matt, orange-red matt, purple-pink matt and dark silver-black matt).
