We like it dirty! During these wet winter months, anyone who rides around on two wheels in woods and meadows will usually be rewarded with a neat mudslinging. Thus it was the perfect time of year to test the new Mudguards from Mudhugger .

Mudhugger is a small company from the United Kingdom based in the West Midlands. Anyone who had visited the UK in the winter will know that local mountain bikers are hardy folk who ride whatever the weather, rain or shine, mud or dust, so these guys should know how to withstand bad weather conditions.

We had the British made Mudguards fitted to front and rear wheel. The “Standard Front Mudhugger” consists of an extremely stable and robust piece of plastic that is adapted to the stanchions of the fork. The Mudhugger can be mounted either with the supplied Velcro or tie-wraps. The Mudhugger covers about 25 centimeters behind the crown thus protects effectively against water and mud splashes.

The “Standard Rear Mudhugger” is a stable injection-moulded plastic part that is attached with tie-wraps to the swingarm. The Mudhugger is shapely, reminiscent of a motorized trial bike, and there is no doubt about the technical function. There is accounting for taste, but anyone who puts more emphasis to the FFF motto “form follows function” than on a respectable appearance will definitely find happiness with the Mudhugger. The guard was also awarded in the current design and innovation award.

Mit zwölf Kabelbindern wird der Mudhugger an der Schwinge befestigt. Selbst nach einem Sturz vom Oakley Sender wäre dieser noch am Hinterrad.
The Mudhugger is attached by twelve tie-wraps to the swing arm. Even after a fall from the Oakley Sender this would still be in place on the rear wheel.

Conclusion:

In summary, the Mudhuggers offer excellent protection against water and dirt, leaving the classic “diarrhea on the back look” history. After your first muddy ride with a Mudhugger you will be aware off the visual result of getting one’s money’s worth.

Lässt das Testerherz höherschlagen. Selbst nach der zwanzigsten Pfützendurchquerung bleibt das Gesicht sauber.
