Team Tested: Mudguards Enduroguard & Mudhugger Review
As Summer tips its hat and starts its brief journey off to the other side of the world, over here in the UK we start to say goodbye to the light nights and dusty dry trails. The start of the dark season is upon us and with it comes mud, muck, crap and slop; whatever you want to call it, it’s a product of soil and rain and aint too welcome in our faces when hitting the local trails! So for those who don’t use them in the summer months this sparks off the time to think about mudguards.
We have two UK brands here on test, both of the plastic affordable types, both easily attached to the bike in a matter of minutes with cable ties. Which you go for is your decision, as to what suits your wallet and your style.
Mud Hugger
It’s no secret that there are now plenty of mudguards to choose from on the market. This here one is a tad different to most, in that it’s molded in the final usable shape (like the Rockguardz) and doesn’t need to be bent around the fork like the Enduroguard. Available in just black they also make an extension available for that extra mud taming needed in the deep slop or for a 29er wheel, although without the extension the guard is made to fit all wheel sizes.
The only down side to it being molded is that it can’t be used as a rear guard on certain models, as some of the foldable smaller ones can. Fitting the Mud Hugger is a breeze, I opted to use cable ties instead of the supplied Velcro straps. Coop tester has been using this guard for over a month, most rides have been wet, one weekend including the UKGE round at the very mucky Dyfi. He has used it with and without the added back plate and is more than happy with its performance; this gets the thumbs up from us.

Enduroguard Mudguard
This guard goes down the lines of foldable, even more affordable and usable as a rear guard on certain frames which can take it. It comes in a variety of colours, with two sizes- standard 80-120mm travel forks and large 120-200mm travel forks. As with the Mud Hugger, they are real easy to install with the use of four cable ties (included in pack) plus you can even add another guard to the front of the one fitted on your forks to extend the outward reach.
Their performance is good, although they don’t stop as much mud as the longer Mud Hugger, but as some people don’t like the look of a longer guard and as these are very affordable, they serve their purpose well. The Enduroguard Mudguard fits all sized wheels and colour choice is also a great option.
