Tested: Riding Kit For The Ladies – Urge, POC, O’Neal
In this fast growing hobby of Enduro/trail riding there seems to be no end of kit for the chaps, but what about when it comes to the ladies. We did some digging around to get our subject (Emma) all kitted out for what we thought would be women’s specific clothing. This, believe it or not seemed harder than it sounds. Some girl specific riding kit just consists of dodgy looking tight lycra everything, and let’s face it the girls just want to wear cool looking kit, just like the lads.
Fortunately Poc came to the rescue in the form of proper girl specific riding T-shirt and unisex shorts, Oneal with unisex riding shoes and Urge with the unisex lid. I still think girl specific shoes or helmet is a rarity which I haven’t been able to source yet.
The Urge All Mountain has been around for a couple of years now, they really did lead the way with their unique looking Enduro specific helmets. The All Mountain still offers big protection, being reinforced with special plastic tubes and cooling being taken care of by the large distinctive holes. These helmets are still so recognizable as being Urge from any angle, offer real comfort with their large pads and crossed straps for weight saving, with the helmet coming in at a very respectable 305g in weight. They come in a massive choice of colours, with lots of other models of Urge helmet available too. Sizes are either S/M or L/XL and they are priced around 100GBP
The Oneal Stinger flat pedal shoe is a fantastic looking shoe, they really do look like cool shoes, without the gimpy look of some riding shoes. Styling is spot-on, as is the comfort and grip from their unique patented Honey Rubber designed sole. They don’t have the ridiculous sticky sole of the Five10 shoes, but some would prefer that, as you are still able to move your feet around with ease. Sizes come in between 39 and 47cm. Colours are black/white, green/white and red/white, weight is 1040g with the shoes costing 84.99GBP
The Poc trail shorts are airy and comfortable, perfect for summer, with two way stretch nylon/spandex material making them perfect for long days on the trail. They come with two front pockets, zip pocket on the left leg and a reflective strip to the rear. Colours available are blue or green 75GBP
The Poc Trail Lite Wo Tee is a light weight breathable girls specific top. It is very comfortable, anti-odor treated and available in blue or pink 45GBP
Emma has been testing this kit for a couple of months now and is over the moon with their comfort and performance
