7 islands 7 reasons: Part #2 La Gomera
La Gomera is one of the smaller islands from the Canary Islands with just 369 km bore. For me, it was a total contrast from Fuerteventura. Here was possible to ride on juicy green trails and mountains and La Gomera is the only Canary Island without volcanic terrain.
With the view of the majestic Teide mountain from Tenerife at the horizon, we found a super fun trail next to the city. This trail was built by the local mountain bike guys, full of smooth turns and some jumps it ends at the ocean. Not bad for the first day of riding. Shared with some friendly hikers we followed a nice trail to take us back to the city. This one led us from the beach area with sick views of one of the most amazing scenario that I ever have seen. The track was long enough to enjoy the view and the trail with rocky, technical descents and some little uphills on the way to San Sebastián de La Gomera.
Without getting into the protected area of the Garajonay National Park, there we have seen one of the icons of the island of La Gomera (Los Roques). That is at the entrance of the national park that has 40 km bore. The national park saves really deep woods and is supported by the UNESCO but nevertheless available for hiking. Out of this area, we found many trails for breathless riding and the rough landscape switched into lush valleys. At the coast, an awe-inspiring cliff made us enjoy the scenery as much as our rides.
I can’t tell how much fun it was, riding all the way down to La Rajita Valley, we shredded 10 km of Rocky Valley with inspiring all over green flora cut by a really super trail that took us to Sick Valley. Many technical parts kept us struggling and led us up to an amazing beach before we came back to the city after that long ride and with endless fun!
On the other side of the island, we got to a cliff that was taking away my breath. We needed to go for a ride just to show how amazing this little place called La Gomera is. I had some unbelievable days with lots of really nice rides and I hope to come back one day.
