Beerten mentioned to her team management that she wished there was a better way to get some fluids down, while descending some of the ultra long downhill sections in enduro races. Wearing a full face mask is mandatory during special stages (downhill) at EWS races. Long special stages combined with full face helmets, create the situation of not drinking, is a sure path to decreased physical performance over the course of a grueling two day race.

Smart minds got together and came up with a way for Beerten drink while on long special sections. Inspired by auto racing style helmets with hydration systems, Beerten will be using a system from USWE sports, based in Sweden, carried on her back. A drinking tube runs from the pack and is attached to her helmet, but can be uncoupled just behind her head for ease of use. Simple enough, but custom made for her, because Beerten gets what she wants. We’ll see her in action in Chile this weekend, stay tuned to find out if this system gets noticed and used by other racers.
