Nukeproof Horizon CS

A few years ago, Nukeproof was still considered an insider tip, but since Sam Hill started dominating the EWS, the British brand is on everyone’s lips. As the flat-pedal pope, Sam Hill hardly participated in the development of the Nukeproof Horizon, yet the new SPD-compatible clipless pedals are predestined for enduro riders.

The workmanship and appearance of the Horizon CS is very appealing, the pedals have four pins per side, which, as with most SPD pedals, have hardly any effect. Clipping in is a little harder than with Shimano pedals, though it didn’t cause any problems. Some testers found the sound the pedals made when clipping in a bit annoying; they don’t sound or feel as sturdy as they look.

When unclipped, the Horizon CS offers a little more support than most SPD pedals, and the tension is easily adjustable. The contact area is tiny, unfortunately, which is noticeable on the trail. Depending on the shoe, the rear part of the cage offers some support, but the areas next to the clip mechanism are too small. On the other hand, the Horizon CS was compatible with all the shoes we tested.

Conclusion

On their own, the Nukeproof Horizon CS offers a solid performance without serious weaknesses, but in comparison to the other pedals in the test field, they can’t compete.
