SIXPACK VERTIC

END 035 Pedal Vergleichstest MTB Clipless Test Review 1 1140x760

If you don’t have a six-pack yourself, at least you can have one on your bike, or preferably two. With the Vertic, the German component brand presents their first clipless pedals. The SPD compatible pedals come in four colours and are the lightest in the test field at 355 g, almost 50 g lighter than the Shimano XT.

The Sixpack Vertic is available in two widths with a Q-factor of 52.5 mm or 58.5 mm; the wider version quickly proved to be the more popular. The tension can be adjusted, though unfortunately the adjustment screw is a little difficult to reach. As with similar pedals, the pins on the front of the Sixpack pedals have little or no contact with the soles of the shoes. If the cleat is not recessed deep enough into the shoe, protruding beyond the sole, it contacts the pedal body, making standing on the pedal wobbly and undefined. With the right shoe, the contact surface provides sufficient support and provides a solid platform.

Clipping in from above is no problem and as with most SPD compatible systems, is audibly confirmed with a click. On the other hand, clipping into the Vertic from behind is a game of chance. Clipped in, the Vertic offers little float, but it can be used actively because there is a well-defined resistance before clipping out.

Conclusion

The Sixpack Vertic is the right pedal for weight weenies and those who like to match colours. However, it isn’t compatible with every shoe, and with the wrong shoes, the wobbly foothold is no fun.
