Enduro Champion Knitting Hats for Bikes in Africa
Fancy getting a handmade gift from one of Germany’s fastest Enduro riders and doing something good for the world at the same time? Then we’ve got exactly the right thing for you!
By now we all know that the reigning German Enduro Champion Ines Thoma is damn quick on a bike. But that she also spends her free time in an impressively purposeful way is clear from her latest charity project. Together with the World Bicycle Relief program she is collecting funds to send bikes to regions in Africa where they are really needed.
Schools, doctors, agricultural businesses and wells are often spread at considerable distance to one another and many of the local people have no way of getting from one place to another apart from walking.
A bicycle gives people access to places they would otherwise never be able to reach. For example according to the World Bicycle Relief school attendance increases markedly in the areas where young people have access to bikes.
The bikes themselves have been specially developed for this project. They are built to be extremely strong and suitable to local conditions. The bikes are assembled by specially trained mechanics in the local area. Up-to now just over 900 have been supplied with each bike costing just Euro 110.
We think the whole thing is great! As of right now, Ines will send her goodies solely to recipients in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. If you would like to take part in the action then you can find the donation page here: https://www.betterplace.org/en/fundraising-events/ines-fahrrad-spendenaktion
