First Look: Replay XD PrimeX HD Camera
As we explored the hidden corners of Interbike, we chanced upon a product that really caught our attention, the Replay XD PrimeX HD Camera. When it comes to POV cameras, of course one name is king, but there are a number of other brands on the market which are really worthy of consideration. With an aerospace aluminium chassis, super smooth remote control, and super crisp high quality video the PrimeX is one hell of an impressive camera!
The video output of this camera is in no doubt, the quality of the video being displayed on the big screens was stunning, super crisp colour without the barrel distortion that is sometimes seen on other models. However, what was most interesting to us was the construction, manufactured out of aluminium and featuring a Hyperion CinePrime lens with 140 degree field of view, the camera exudes quality. The camera is waterproof up to 3m and everything feels tough and robust, and as the camera can be rotated in the mount, helmet mounting would be easy. With a large start/stop button it should be easy to operate the camera with gloves on and the ergonomics and aesthetics are impressive.
The biggest attraction however is the battery life, with a recording time of up to 3.5 hours, this is certainly a figure that will worry some of the competition. The PrimeX will record in 1080p up to 60fps and 720p up to 120fps and shoot 4k stills on its 16MP sensor.
Most HD POV cameras have a WiFi app that lets you control the camera with a smart phone, and the PrimeX is no exception. However, we were immediately impressed with the smoothness of the app, showing minimal lag when moving the camera, this really helps when framing and setting up the camera for POV use.
The PrimeX will sell for $299, pitching it directly against the best of the competition, and if you are looking for a new professional quality camera to record your exploits and adventures, the PrimeX is certainly worth a look. We hope to get hold of one for review soon. For more information check out the the Replay XD website.
