Our first editions of our “How to” workshop guides focused on products by RockShox / SRAM, this time it is the turn of the suspension experts, Fox Racing! We will guide you through how to limit the travel range of the Fox “Talas” lowering system, and so influencing the geometry of the bike and performance on the trail.
In June, 2013 Fox introduced their new Talas system for 32, 34 and 36 forks. In addition to significant improvement in performance, the system provides the rider with the possibility to vary the travel range adjustment by up to 30 millimeters, and so to influence the geometry and the driving behavior of the wheel.
Some may be familiar with the Talas System, you can Lower the fork for the uphills sections, however sometimes the factory setting is more than you would like, leaving you with a very steep seat and head angle, and with the bars really low. You can however change the action of the Talas control, this is where this ‘how to’ comes in, we will show you how to change the amount of reduction in travel the Talas system applies.
Since the characteristics of the short-travel mode and the long travel mode of the fork – as seen on the right picture are very similar, the Talas system is not only just an uphill support, but also offers a second riding mode downhill . Again, the change in geometry caused by 30mm fork travel adjustment is often too large.
We tell you below how to use Fox Racing clip-on travel spacers to reduce the lowering of the Talas system, allowing you to perfectly adapt your fork to your bike.
