POC Scottish Enduro Series Announces New Ambassadors

We reported last week that the Scottish Enduro Series would once again be supported by POC, and also mentioned their new ambassador program. The ambassadors will provide friendly faces on the trails and serve as an important link between the riders and organisers. Well now it’s time to meet the 2016 ambassadors, here is the latest news from the Scottish Enduro Series:

The POC Scottish Enduro Series Ambassadors are a new key element in the contribution to developing the sport of Enduro in Scotland – giving participants across all of the categories an opportunity to contribute and discuss their experiences using this conduit between organisers and riders.

Frazer Coupland said “We believe that these experienced Enduro racers will be able to make a meaningful and important contribution to the future development of racing in Scotland. By having ambassadors whom all riders can access out on the course – to ride, discuss and share their thoughts on the way the event and the series is evolving – individuals will have an opportunity to reflect on their interests and abilities, and we will get first-hand feedback from the experts.”

Spook Munro from the series said “Whilst we think we know what the riders want, we need to listen and we constantly need to try and improve. The competition is not between the organizer and the rider, it’s between the riders.”

With this in mind, it is hoped that all participants will take the time to engage with Ambassadors, whether it be to ask for advice, give feedback or just for a bit of “craic and banter”. The Series Ambassadors will promote Scottish Enduro, and motivate and inspire other people to get involved in enduro whilst racing, riding and enjoying doing something that we love, riding our bikes.

Introducing the POC Scottish Enduro Series Ambassadors

Nic Fell has been riding mountain bikes for the last 7 years and will ride in the senior female category. Nic said “I’ve been racing the SES for the last couple of years, I ride for and am a Brand Ambassador for FINDRA. I’m also one-half of The Felldoon Race Team. I love Enduro and I’m stoked to be an ambassador for the SES this year. See you at the races.”

Lewis Buchanan from Innerleithen, races for BMC Factory Trailcrew in the elite category. Lewis stated “This is my first season racing Enduro so it’s going to be an exciting year. I look forward to hitting as many Scottish Enduro series rounds as possible and it will be awesome to see you all there! Don’t miss out on awesome organisation and great trails this year”.
Nicola Johnson, from Edinburgh, is a member of the Club – Hervelo, describes herself a delusional optimist!!! Nicola said “I’ve been racing (well sticking a number on) in both downhill and enduro for a couple of years. I may not be that competitive but I like the social aspect and it’s great to spend time with loads of like minded folk discovering new trails and new places.”

Keir Coupland, riding as a senior for 2016. Originally from Fort William but currently living and riding in the Tweed Valley and currently a student at the BASE course. Keir said “Having scratched the surface of enduro races in previous years by doing the odd Scottish round and the Bluegrass races. In 2016, look forward to focusing my attention on the Scottish Enduro Series. I really cannot wait to get underway in Dunkeld, I am looking forward to great riding, racing and meeting new folk at the races. ”

Gary Forrest is an Enduro racer for Ibis cycles Enduro team and will ride in the elite category. Gary says “I am lucky enough to live next to great trails in and around the Peebles area. I just love the challenge that Scottish riding and racing gives you and am so happy to be a part of the ambassador programme for the Scottish Enduro series”

Katy Winton is a Professional Scottish Mountain Bike racer for Trek Factory Racing Enduro, working her way towards World domination and full-time dream living! Katy Winton is a wee Scottish mountain bike racer who loves riding her bike FAST, which she is very good at, and always fun and cheery at the races and the series are delighted to have Katy as an Ambassador. (Currently living the dream in Madeira)

Angus Hardie, racing in the senior category “I am 18 years of age and come from Melrose in the Scottish Borders. You’ll probably see me on my back wheel more often than not and if you’re really lucky you might see some okay riding. Probably not though. I ride for my Dad’s bike shop, Hardies Bikes, which is in Melrose.”

Blair Aitchison “I’m Blair, I’m 21 years old and I’m from Earlston in the Scottish Borders although I like to think that Crabapple hits is home. I ride for ‘Hardies Bikes’, based in Melrose. Fun fact: I have never been beaten by teammate Angus and aim to keep this up for 2016

This year will see the POC series head to Dunkeld for the first round in less than four weeks. It has been an interesting winter and conditions for the enduro in March, well they could be anything, this winter who would dare predict what next week’s weather will be like? When asked details on the course all the team would say was “Challenging and Fun” There are still ten places open before entry closes in the next few days.
