Preview Issue #016 | Tune It Up Part 1 : Fork Tuning Guide
Well set up suspension can make a good bike feel amazing, but if you get it wrong you can make a great bike feel terrible. Do you know how much sag you are running? Do you know what the red rebound control on your fork does? If not then it’s time to check out our field tuning guide coming soon in Issue 16 of ENDURO Mountainbike Magazine
Using high speed video examples we guide you through the essential steps required to optimize your fork, from the basics of setting up sag (and the pitfalls to avoid), rebound and compression right through to customising the air spring volume. Spending a couple of hours setting up your suspension will transform your riding enjoyment, and can also be a lot of fun.
Our essential guide will show you how to set up your suspension for your own riding style, and optimise it for the trails that you love riding.
We also share some great advice from the experts “A balanced suspension setup is very important. Traction not only comes from the tires and terrain surface but the amount of force the rider is placing on the front and rear tire. A balanced setup is important to this element of traction. In order for the highest corner traction, an equal amount of force on both the front and rear tire is required. A riders bar height, stem length and priority on efficiency versus downhill all play a factor. Once this is evaluated, adjusting the damping and spring will help pitching of the bike and creating a better balance”. Mark Fitzsimmons [FOX Suspension Program Manager]
