Race Report: Urge 1001 Enduro #5 – Marathon de Roubion

Organized by the MTB Roubion on June 7th and 8th, the Week-end 100% Enduro of Roubion was supposed to finish in style on sunday with the main event of the weekend: the Enduro Marathon of Roubion.

Under bright sunshine and on lush mountain trails, the day started such as a great time of riding, with two special stages totaling over 2000m vertical drop, rided by 220 racers engaged on this 5th stage of the Urge 1001 Enduro Tour 2014.

Two awesome stages one more time won by Florian Nicolai, for the fifth consecutive time of the season, ahead of his two main rivals on the French Riviera enduro serie : Olivier Giordanengo and Valentin Escriou ; while the women’s podium was nicely occupied by Nadine Sapin, Mary Moncorge and Julia Hobson.

Unfortunately, after two days of racing, sun and beautiful trails, we will keep a definitely sad memory of this weekend, after a guy who crashed on the first stage, Christophe Beauger, died in hospital from his fall. All the protagonists of the event, and in general all the MTB community, join in 1001sentiers tribute to Christophe and send to his family all their deepest condolences.
