Birzman BottleCleat

The BottleCleat is Birzman’s very own idea of a minimalistic bottle fastening system. The bottles have a capacity of 650 ml and snap into the frame holder using a simple stud attachment system combined with a square base plate on the bottle. It takes a little practice to attach the bottle to the studded holder but in our very first tests after assembling the system a simple sideways movement was enough to lock the bottle into the holder.

At a price of € 11.90 Birzman’s BottleCleat is an affordable bottle holding mechanism.

Unfortunately the reassuring clicking noise of the brand new system was gone after only a few test rides; that’s because the upper plastic mount of the holder wears out quickly and only lasts a short while. As a consequence the bottle hangs loose inside the holder rattling and threatening to fall out with every impact.

Unfortunately the two thin plastic bars of the holder wear out rather quickly and only last a few rides. As a result the bottle refuses to anchor properly inside the holder.

It will take a bit of practice to insert the bottle into the big stud-mount and click it into the big square base-plate.

Having said that the one advantage of this system is that you can remove the bottle by turning it sideways, to the right to be precise. This is a huge advantage especially with compact frame designs as there’s not always enough room to slide the bottle in from the top. Our conclusion is that — provided it clicks in properly – the BottleCleat is an affordable and minimalistic solution. Also the soft plastic of the bottle makes drinking easy.
