The Mavic Crossride Elite W were by far the most comfortable in the test, slipping them on is a comfy shoe dream, a soft tongued hug of a shoe with the gentle pressure of the laces and securing velcro strap to keep the laces neat and snag-free. The Ortholite footbeds offer further on-and-off the bike comfort keeping you moving along happily for many an hour and the large mesh panel over the toes offers some good venting but make the shoe a damp proposition when the trails get wet. The contagrip soles offer good grip and, although the tread is less prominent than some of the other shoes, we found the traction good when walking in the mud. The toe box is less rigid than that of other shoes in the test so if you are a frequent kicker of things, you could probably do better elsewhere. With a ‘trail’ look and feel, these shoes are at home on long rides but are stiff enough to be worn on any enduro-style trails you can throw them down. If keeping your muddy shoes in a super-white condition isn’t for you, rest assured there is a lovely ‘papaya’ option.

The Mavic Crossride Elite W offers a comfortable shoe for most people doing most types of riding at a very reasonable price – it can take you from trail centre spins to cross country epics with a few enduro races thrown in along the way.
