Bike Check: The Ghost Cagua from Bike Guide Kurt Resch

In most of our bike checks we’ve looked at the bikes of professionals and racers. But countless other riders with very interesting bikes are on the trails of this world. Therefore we present you today the work horse of Kurt Resch, he is the owner and Bike Guide of the Bike Hotel Steineggerhof in South Tyrol.

The performance figures which Kurt are rides year after year with his Ghost Cagua are truly impressive. Last year he did more than 100 guided tours. He climbed up over 170.000 meters of altitude and rode more than 250.000 vertical meters in the downhill. Overall, he came up with a mileage of more than 4,500 km, and that only in alpine terrain – respect!

Letztes Jahr erhielt das Rad von Kurz ein komplett neues RockShox Fahrwerk bestehen aus einer Pike RCT3 Federgabel und einem Vivid Air Dämpfer.
Last year the bike received a brand new RockShox suspension consisting of a Pike RCT3 fork and a Vivid Air shock.
Bei der Teleskopsattelstütze vertraut Kurt auf die mechanische KindShock Lev mit 150mm Verstellbereich. So hat er auch im steilen Gelände genug Bewegungsfreiheit über dem Rad.
At the dropper seatpost Kurt relies on the mechanical Kind Shock Lev with 150mm of adjustment. In steep terrain he has enough freedom of movement over the bike.
"Mit dem RockShox Vivid Air ist der Hinterbau gar nicht wieder zu erkennen!" sagt Kurt zum neuen Dämpfer in seinem Bike. Die etwas schlechteren Uphill-Eigenschaften nimmt er hier gerne in Kauf.

Der Verschleiß im Bereich der Bremsen ist enorm. Im Schnitt benötigt Kurt vorne alle 10 Tage neue Bremsbeläge und zwei Bremsscheiben pro Saison und das bei gerade einmal 60 kg Gewicht.
The wear of the brakes is enormous. On average Kurt needs new brake pads every 10 days and two brake discs per season with a body weight of only 60 kg.
Kurt bietet nicht nur Continental Reifen zum Test in seinem Hotel an, er vertraut auch selbst auf die Pneus aus Korbach. Sie seien besonders haltbar und so könne er mit einem Satz nahezu eine komplette Saison fahren.
Kurt not only offers Continental Tires for testing at his hotel, but he is also familiar with tires from Korbach. They are very durable and so he could go with a set almost a full season.
Auch der Antrieb des Rades wird regelmäßig gewechselt. Dank des 22er Reverse Kettenblatt verlieren auch lange Uphills ihren Schrecken.
The drivetrain of the bike is changed regularly. Thanks to the 22er Reverse chainring, long uphills lose their difficulty.
Zu Testzwecken hat Kurt aktuell auch ergonomische Griffe aus dem Hause SQ-Lab montiert.
For testing purposes, Kurt has mounted ergonomic grips made ​​by SQlab.
Gut eingesessen: Auf den SQ-Lab Sattel möchte der erfahrene Bike-Guide nicht mehr verzichten.

Noch fährt Kurz 2-fach, doch der Umbau auf die XX1 ist bereits beschlossene Sache! Hier entschied er sich für ein 30er Kettenblatt.
Still runs 2×10, but the tag on the SRAM XX1 is already a done deal! Here he opted for a 30 chainring.
Das Cockpit besteht aus einem 50 mm kurzen Tune "Geiles Teil" Vorbau und einem Syntace Vector Carbon Lenker in 740mm Breite.

Im alpinen Terrain bevorzugt Kurt Flatpedals. Sie bieten ihm bergab nicht nur mehr Sicherheit im steilen Gelände. Bergauf beim Tragen bevorzugt er Schuhe ohne Klick-Einsatz.
In alpine terrain Kurt prefers flat pedals. They offer him more security in steep terrain and when he walks uphill it is more comfortable.
