How to bleed a MAGURA MT-Series Brakes

When the trails are covered with snow and ice it’s time to devote some energy to your favourite sporting device and perform some long overdue servicing. Today we’ll show you how to bleed the current MAGURA MT-brakes.

The tools for the job:

Magura Bremse Entlüften (1 von 20)
  • MAGURA bleed kit
  • Torx T25
  • Royal Blood
  • 8 mm open end spanner

Instructions:

Zu Beginn muss das Laufrad demontiert werden.
To start remove the wheel.
Im Anschluss mit Hilfe des Torx T25 die Belagssicherungsschraube entfernen
Then using the Torx T25 remove the brake pad retaining screw.
Nun können die Beläge nach oben herausgenommen werden
Now you can remove the pads from above.
Mit Hilfe der, an der Transportsicherung angebrachten Verschleißanzeige, kann geprüft werden ob die Beläge bereits verschlissen sind. Das ist der Fall, wenn sich die Trägerplatte in den zu sehenden Schlitz einführen lässt.
The transport guards also have a pad wear indicator allowing you to check if the pads are worn out. If the carrier plate can be pushed into the slit shown in the photo the pads need replacing.
Die Bremskolben vorsichtig mit einem Gabelschlüssel zurückdrücken
Press the brake pistons back carefully with the 8 mm spanner.
Nun die Belagssicherungsschraube wieder einsetzen und daran die Transportsicherung fixieren.
Now screw in the pad retaining screw again and fix the transport guard to it.
Bei der MT7 und MT5 kommen durch die vier Kolben-Technik jeweils zwei Belagssicherungen zum Einsatz
For the MT7 and MT5 the four-piston construction requires two separate transport guards.
Eine der beiden Spritzen mit ca. 25-30 ml Royal Blood füllen
Fill one syringe with approx. 25-30 ml Royal Blood.
Die untere Verschlussschrauben entfernen und die Spritze anschrauben.
Remove the lower plug bolt and screw in the filled syringe.
Bremsgriff in eine waagerechte Position bringen.
Position the brake level parallel to the ground.
Die EBT-Schraube mit Hilfe des T25 entfernen
Remove the EBT-bolt using the T25 tool.
Die leere Spritze in die Öffnung ansetzen.
Screw in the empty syringe.
Die obere Spritze kann auch ohne Kolben angebracht werden.
You can use the upper syringe without the piston too.
Nun von unten die Flüssigkeit durchdrücken und dann wieder ansaugen. Den Vorgang mehrfach (mind. 3 mal) wiederholen.
Now press the fluid through from the lower syringe and suck it back again. Repeat this process several times (min. 3 times).
Dabei den Bremshebel mehrfach "schnappen" lassen.
Whilst allowing the brake lever to “snap”, (pull towards the bar and quickly release).
Im Anschluss den Bremshebel entfernen und die EBT-Schraube wieder einsetzen. Diese lediglich mit 0,5 Nm festziehen. Die Dichtigkeit des Systems wird hier nicht über die Schraube sondern den angebrachten O-Ring erreicht.
Then remove the syringe and put the EBT screw back in. Tighten to just 0.5 Nm. The leak proofing of the system isn’t achieved through the bolt but the O-ring. We recommend holding the tool with just three fingers as in the picture.
Nun auch die untere Spritze entfernen und Bremssattel gründlich mit Entfetter oder Bremsenreiniger reinigen.
Now remove the lower syringe, the pad retaining screw and the transport guards. Thoroughly clean the brake calliper with degreaser or brake cleaner.
Im Anschluss de Bremsbeläge wieder einsetzen und mit der Sicherungsschrauben sichern.
Then re-fit the brake pads and the pad-retaining bolt.
