Giro Chamber SPD Shoes

Developed in conjunction with the ever dominating Aaron Gwin, the Giro Chamber shoes had one hell of a pedigree to live up to before we’d ever slipped them on our feet. The street inspired skate look won us over instantly but would it prove fashion over function?

Giro-Chamber-Review-1
The Giro Chamber shoes have proven exceptionally comfortable and a pleasure to shred in.

The fit of the Chamber is good, roomy if anything but mega comfortable, and to our delight this comfort stood true once on the bike. Long days in the saddle were a breeze and even when we were forced to push or carry our bike, we completely forget that it was cycling rather than hiking boots we were shod with. When confronted with wet conditions, the shoe does tend to quickly become sodden and take a while to dry out, it’s more suited to drier or hotter conditions and seems to keep your feet pretty well ventilated.

The Chamber isn’t overly stiff which helped on long descents with the sole helping to absorb and dampen out vibrations, also offering up ample protection from all angles with a reinforced toe and heel. We tested the shoe on both Shimano and CrankBrothers pedal platforms and it took to both happily with no issues of engagement, there is an adequate not bountiful amount of movement in cleat position. Longevity was good with one exception, the lace strap in our model was showing some heavy signs of wear disappointingly, tearing at the fold and rendering the shoe unusable, which did sour what had been a great few months on the shoe.

Ein abgerissener Klettverschluss, der den Schuh unbenutzbar machte, sorgte für Enttäuschung.
We were disappointed to see the strap breaking on the shoe, rendering them unusable.

We used and abused the Giro Chamber intensively for close to three months and loved everything about the shoe, which made it that little bit more disappointing when the lace strap wore through. Other members of our team have also been riding the Chamber and haven’t had the same issue, so given the shoe’s prowess in every other area we wouldn’t need much convincing to give it a second chance …
