Knog PWR Trail

Innovative: the modular lighting concept from Knog.

At the 2017 EUROBIKE, Knog presented their new PWR lamp series. It’s a waterproof modular lighting concept for biking as well as other outdoor sports. All you need is one battery to power different lights – currently up to max. 1800 lm. You can also use the battery as a power source to recharge your smartphone. Using Knog’s ModeMaker software, all of the PWR series lamps feature customizable lighting modes.

Unfortunately, only slow trail rides are possible with the PWR Trail due to the weak illumination.

The battery capacity of 5 Ah of the tested PWR Trail is among the best of them. The light output of 1000 lm, however, is below average. We’re interested to see how the compatible lamp attachment with 1800 lm performs – unfortunately it wasn’t available at the time of testing.
The helmet mount of PWR Trail is a bit unusual. The bracket is mounted to the vents of the helmet using an Allen bolt. Although the 256 g lamp (including battery and helmet mount) stays firmly fixed to the helmet, it increases the overall helmet weight noticeably.
The new PWR series lays the ideal foundation for a modular battery lighting system that might save users unnecessary additional investments in the future. With the stronger lamp attachment and the additional extension cable, the Knog could compete with the best lights out there, but at the moment there is still a lack of accessories.
