Weapons of Choice – racers and their bikes at the EWS in Finale Ligure

CUBE – Prototyp 29er Carbon-Endurobike

At the last EWS race in Finale Ligure, the Cube Action Team competed on prototype bikes with 29″ wheels. Although the eye-catching camouflage can be a bit irritating, the frames details are nevertheless recognizable. In contrast to the previous CUBE Stereo 160, the shock is lower in the frame and the frame offers more standover clearance.
The components correspond to the previous standard of the Cube Action Team, Nico using a two-by Shimano XTR Di2 drivetrain, and FOX suspension consisting of a FLOAT 36 Factory fork and FLOAT X2 shock.
The production bike will be presented to the public in March 2018 and should come quite close to the prototype we saw in Finale.

Ingrid Components – 12-fach-Kassette

Giulio Mancini showed us his latest development on the beach of Finale Ligure: a 12 speed 10 x 48 cassette, manufactured by Ingrid Components near San Marino and available online from November 2017 for € 349.
The cassette consists of two parts. The small cogs are made of steel and the three biggest ones of hard anodised aluminium. The total weight apparently comes in at 318 g.
Even the back side of things can be beautiful! The cassette is completely CNC-machined
Matching the 12-speed cassette, Ingrid Components offers solid aluminium cranks in three different lengths and different color combinations

Jesse James Ceruso – Bergamont Encore

Particularly striking at the EWS race in Finale Ligure was the Bergamont Encore of the 22-year-old German student Jesse, who had attached a large number of measuring devices to his bike. Unfortunately he was unable to finish the race this year due to a crash. Still, Jesse is sure that he was able to record a lot of useful data.
With a multitude of measuring points, Jesse wants to measure and evaluate the stresses on the frame under extreme conditions – a race in Finale Ligure clearly provides the perfect conditions for that.
The Hamburg bike manufacturer Bergamont was open to the research work of Jesse and happily provided him with a Bergamont Encore 9.0 to do so
Pressure, torsion and bending of the aluminium frame were measured and will be evaluated later. We hope to report on the results of Jesse’s studies in the spring of 2018

Shimano Saint PD-M820 SPD pedal

The Shimano Saint PD-M820 is an exciting novelty for all riders who rely on Shimano’s SPD system. So far, only a handful of these pedals exist; officially, they are expected to be available by February 2018.
A two-sided SPD system and large contact surfaces with four pins per side should ensure a stable footing
The low profile design reduces its height and weight

Pepis Tire Noodle

What was the hottest product in the EWS race pit in Finale Ligure 2017? In the past year, it was very clearly the All In-multitool. This year, Salvatore Abela from BiciDaMontagna.com drew our attention to PTN – Pepis Tire Noodle. These foam rings were in great demand this year at the enduro race in Finale.
